How to choose the right pellet stove

Are you thinking about getting a pellet stove to keep your home warm during winter, but feel unsure about which model would be best? One of the most frequent questions that we are asked about pellet stoves is: “How can I calculate a stove's necessary heat output for my house according to its size?” Well, here is the answer:

A generic calculation is an essential starting point to obtain a room's estimated heating requirements, as there are many variables to consider.

In order to do this, calculate a 1kW output per 10 square metres of room space. A 100 square metres house, for example, would require a pellet stove of at least 10kW.

However, there are other aspects to consider when choosing the size of a pellet stove, such as the ceilings' height, the climate zone, and the home's insulation level.

For this reason, deciding on a stove with a higher kW output than the minimum required could be a good idea, especially for houses with high ceilings or in areas with very cold weather. For these spaces, we recommend calculating a rate of 1kW of heat output per 7.5 square metres, instead of 10.

AlGiven that these are estimates, consulting with installation experts is highly advisable. They will be able to carry out an in-situ analysis of your home's heating requirements and provide a more specific calculation of the kW needed to keep your spaces warm.
