How to choose a toilet?
These are some features to take into account when choosing the right toilet:
- The waste outlet can be:
- Horizontal: has the waste outlet pointing towards the wall.
- Vertical: has the waste outlet pointing towards the floor.
- Dual: this means that the toilet can be installed either with a vertical waste outlet or a horizontal one.
- The cisterns can be:
- Close-coupled: the toilet bowl is connected to the cistern. For these kinds of tanks, the water inlet can either be on the bottom or side. Around 90% of the water inlets, whether they have a side inlet or a bottom inlet, are on the left-hand side. Each close-coupled cistern is compatible with the same brand and series bowl.
- High-level: the cistern is separated from the toilet bowl, but is connected via a pipe. This type of tank is not common to see nowadays, due to its outdated appearance. These cisterns are compatible with any toilet bowl model.
- Concealed: the cistern is concealed inside the wall and activated via a flush plate. It's important to take into account whether the toilet bowl is freestanding or wall-mounted, as it will be necessary to install a cistern designed either for freestanding toilets or wall-mounted ones. The compatibility of the bowl and the concealed cistern is standard, or, in other words, they don't have to be necessary from the same brand. On the other hand, the flush plate and the concealed cistern do need to be from the same brand in order to ensure their compatibility.
- The toilet seats and lids can be:
- Normal: the toilet seat has no special mechanism.
- Soft-close: the toilet seat closes slowly in a controlled manner without requiring assistance.
- Clip-off: the toilet seat can be removed.
